A worrying cocktail of unnecessary and risky chemicals and toxins are added to almost all modern bodycare products, including those labelled ‘natural’. Whether we realise it or not, showering and moisturising has become a damaging chemical assault on our skin.

Many of us suffer some kind of skin complaint or irritation – since founding Real Bodycare we’ve realised just how many! The shocking truth is that some of the ingredients in the ‘skincare’ products we use to look after our skin actually cause the problems they claim to solve, and might be having unintended consequences on our health, as well as our planet.

Run by the Environmental Working Group in America, the Skin Deep database is an excellent source of information and research to help us make informed choices about the products we use.

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics

Another brilliant American website, www.safecosmetics.org, campaigns for better regulation of the beauty and bodycare industry.  Turns out Obama has just announced some new legislation that will help to reign in some of the worst excesses… Lead in lipstick?  Carcinogens in baby shampoo?  You’d better believe it. This website opens with a cool introductory video.
